One thing I am convinced of is that the level of your happiness at this moment, has a lot to do with your basic feeling of overall wellness. Your optimum health is the most important goal to strive for. I wanted to share several email requests about people’s Meniere’s Disease symptoms that I received, and show you how these tie into optimum health. If you can see your symptoms in a stranger’s email, you may be able to connect this to your own situation.
All the readers had symptoms for which they were given a diagnosis of Meniere’s disease. And as you well know through reading, research, and your own personal experiences, this diagnosis was given by well-meaning, knowledgeable medical professionals, but offers a depressing, hopeless future. Even medical professionals, who, themselves, have experienced these symptoms of Meniere’s Disease, suffer the same fate. It is so sad, and to my way of thinking, is inexcusable.
When you feel right, you tend to be joyful, you tend to have a sense of deep fun, and your appreciation of everything expands. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.
In Meniere’s disease, we are only looking at two sets of symptoms: balance and hearing issues. These symptoms are the result of irritation or inflammation which put pressure on or irritate these balance and hearing nerves. This is the only way symptoms shows up (trauma includes pressure).
In the last three years, we have all been denied the freedom to make our own choices, ….to look at true science, the real “textbook” science.
Textbook science is all about exploring how the body functions…and why it doesn’t work at times. It discusses “cause and effect”, and how inflammation heals the body.
Early on in my quest to learn as much as I could about balance (vertigo or dizziness) and hearing symptoms (hearing loss and hearing fluctuation) I actually borrowed a basic science textbook from a 1st year medical student, just to see what it said about inflammation.
Over many years, people with balance and hearing issues have been encouraged to think of Meniere’s Disease as an incurable, hopeless condition.
We are programmed to believe that it:
- is a long term disease
- has no hope of healing
- is incurable
- requires a low salt diet
- requires drugs such as steroids (do you know they can cause hearing loss?) and antihistamines
And that is completely false!
Unfortunately, the internet “supports” this lie. And that is where most people end up getting all their information….Of course you are encouraged to believe this idea.
Why not look for something more helpful?
Why not find the cause of each symptom and fix it? I assume you do that when you have a splinter or an upset stomach.
A healthy body doesn’t have any hearing issues or balance issues.
When it does, it simply means that it is not as healthy as it needs to be. I often hear from people who tell me that they are very healthy…that may be, but if they have these Meniere’s Disease symptoms, something isn’t as healthy or as strong as needed.
So you have choices:
- Find the cause and fix it.
- Or improve your body’s health.
- Or do both.
The time or point at which this “unhealthiness” shows up, gives you the precise point of where to look for the cause.
Look at your own symptoms right now, today. Are both balance AND hearing present? Or just one…or none? Then no cause is present.
REAL science includes researching “cause and effect”. Keep this in mind at all times. This is simple basic anatomy and physiology. Anything said to the contrary, is not based on scientific knowledge.
And…
You do not need a degree in any medical designation to figure this out…just common sense..
However I think it’s best not to challenge your doctor…just accept the opinion gracefully, gratefully, but learn to think a little differently.
You can simply look at your own body, recognize when it’s healthy and then realize when it’s not. You can feel it.
Sadly, we are programmed to ask for, and believe, outside help. Although, slowly, this perception is changing. All Meniere’s “help” is based on predetermined protocol.
I have said this before….I am amazed and grateful when a medical practitioner contacts me for help. I am very happy to share all my knowledge, my thinking. Surely these medical practitioners have been taught the basic principle of “cause and effect”. Yet each professional is surprised and often, I suspect, is a bit sheepish that they didn’t figure this out for themselves. However, they are never too arrogant to express their gratitude.
As I have written many times, your body is programmed to respond automatically to
- protect you,
- heal you,
- detoxify all your body systems,
- rebalance its functions as needed….
…… to keep you healthy.
Just as you believe and accept that an ocean tide goes out and always comes back, so it is with your body’s healing process. No one is too old.
This is all done through your immune system.
- You do not actively/consciously ask your body to protect you: you let it do its job naturally.
- You do not need to think this condition will last forever. Your immune system will heal the problem, but you need to do something.
- Get your body healthy and the symptoms go away.
If you allow your body to be unhealthy, and these same Meniere’s Disease symptoms MAY come back, depending on their cause.
With this basic science information in mind, I invite you to explore these case studies with me. If you have corresponded with me about your own situation, chances are you are aware that I look at this very differently, more personally.
Doctors have to generalize.
- They batch similar symptoms
- And assign a label,
- And add a treatment protocol
You, on the other hand, are very fortunate. You can be very specific with your own symptoms of Meniere’s Disease and your preferred “treatment” process..
The practitioner has to follow a set protocol and cannot deviate from that.
You are privileged to think differently….if you choose to do that.
Let’s figure out why these various Meniere’s Disease symptoms show up. I really encourage you to think about your own symptoms as you read these words.
Reader #1: I’ve kept my symptoms pretty much under reasonable control the past 10 years, but recently am experiencing tinnitus and fluctuating hearing. Trying to find out what might be causing it aside from may be increased stress. Also I had (the latest flu) and it got worse for a while after that.
KH: This reader believes they have a disease called “Meniere’s” (made up of balance and hearing symptoms), symptoms they need to keep “under control”. But do you see right now, that they have no balance symptoms? Do you also see that they have just gone through a recent bout of flu? Could any of this be related to congestion in the head? Could the hearing nerve be irritated as it is situated so close to the congestion? Could tinnitus also be a result of this, as it too, is part of the hearing apparatus? Would it not then make sense to get healthy again and get rid of the symptoms?
Would increased stress contribute to this? Personally, I doubt it. It’s so easy to blame the intangible stress for everything. We all have stress, sometimes a lot of it and our bodies adjust as needed over time. However, do understand that stress raises your blood pressure. Here is how it does that. Increased stress increases the number of heart beats, and that raises the amount of the blood volume circulating throughout the body (including the ear.) And increased pressure will also push down on each nerve.
If your balance nerve is very sensitive, the added pressure could give added balance symptoms. Incidentally, I offered to send our simple sinus cleaning method to help get rid of the flu congestion/residuals.
Do you now believe they have a disease…or could it be may be the after-effects of a flu virus? Maybe the episode 10 years ago also had a cause that no one explored?
Could better health have lessened her Meniere’s Disease symptoms? It could certainly have helped her reaction to the flu.
Reader #2: I was diagnosed with Menieres in 2018 after several vertigo episodes. Went on a low sodium diet and was symptom free for four years until two weeks ago when I had a vertigo attack. I’m taking a fresh look at how I’m managing this and would like to know more about David’s system.
KH: here we have someone with balance symptoms and felt with the low sodium diet, they would be fine. Yet, while still on this low sodium diet, two weeks ago, another vertigo episode happened. Did you realize that their health two weeks ago was not adequate enough to stop this episode? The “cause “ was strong enough to end up as unwelcome symptoms.
I am always thrilled when people question what is going on and not just fearing their disease has shown up again.
When you consider your own situation, when are balance and hearing symptoms showing up in your own situation?
And are you now beginning to look at all of this differently?
Reader #3: I would like to try David’s system. Would you kindly forward this to me? I have extreme/severe bouts of vertigo which last 24 hours at a time, so I become bedridden during that time until it passes. I take a Betahistine prescribed by my GP to try and control it. I now get headaches/migraines during episodes and EXTREME tiredness.
KH: I get very concerned when I read an email like this. A “severe” vertigo episode or a bout (lasting 24 hours), tells me the cause is also severe and the body response is also severe.
The first thing you need to realize that these are bouts…this is not happening all the time. So it has a start and an ending: that makes it “relatively simple” to look for the cause.
If you look carefully, the reference to the headaches and migraines can offer a valuable clue. From my listening to people over many years, much of this is caused by chemicals.
This reader has to do some serious research as to what the cause is, and stop it, in order not to prolong the drain on the body’s immune system. By that I mean that the immune system is constantly trying to heal the problem: that is it’s job, but just like a machine, you can’t run a motor all the time.
And honestly, a mild antihistamine is not going to be very helpful. Someone isn’t recognizing the seriousness of the incident.
And the phrase “EXTREME tiredness” shows a very possible “adrenalin rush/crash”. Please do your own research on this: it is important for you to know how it happens.
So altogether, in these three case studies, at these points, can you see that “the body” was NOT healthy?
Did you also recognize that in each case, the signs and symptoms showed up occasionally, not every day, all day?
What would you do now with more knowledge?
Can you see how you can look at your own situation very easily and differently?
So one minute the reader is fine and the next moment they are not fine. Something changed.
What changed?
Something CAUSED their bodies to be unwell.
Some THING alerted their body’s protective mechanism to spring into action automatically.
Have you experienced that?
Let’s get back to your own situation….
It is your body’s responsibility to protect you. In your latest episode, some irritant alerted your balance nerve or your hearing nerve that something isn’t “normal”, healthy, safe.
Your immune system’s “health” and ability to respond quickly depends on your overall body’s health, pure and simple. Perfectly scientific. You know that “feeling…”I am getting a cold”?
What is the most common advice you hear nowadays?
Keep your immune system healthy. And if it’s not to your satisfaction, find some nutrients that do it. Only nutrients (vitamin, minerals, antioxidants) feed your body: chemicals can’t do that.
I want to leave you with one very important idea, a caution that came to my attention a short while ago.
Scenario:
Over time, with new understanding, you realized that you don’t have a disease. You now know that your symptoms of Meniere’s Disease come from causes.
- You decided to look for the underlying cause(s).
- You found it, fixed it, and are now fine.
- Your symptoms are gone, and if they do show up, you know what to do. This is the outcome of taking responsibility for your health and spending some valuable time looking for the causes when they show up and then fixing the problem.
- So now you really realize that this is not a disease: you are in control.
However, ….though some misfortune, you end up in a medical emergency situation.
As you are being asked about your medical history, you in this moment (you or someone else) mention you have had Meniere’s disease, forgetting you now know it’s not a disease. (We all say things in times of stress: it’s normal.)
I need to tell you that this is a red flag to a medical person.
Few doctors know about Meniere’s except to recall its unusual name…. they also vaguely recall that it is not curable. Their limited learning comes from a medical textbook. And because they have this limited knowledge, they now wonder if this could be important issue.
So now your current (urgent) medical plan could hinge on this set of non-existent symptoms. With the doctor’s limited knowledge, this could influence their thinking.
So let me ask you….in this situation, would tell anyone about a completely healed 15 year-old leg fracture? Similarly, it is not necessary to mention these balance or hearing symptoms UNLESS THEY PERTAIN TO THE IMMEDIATE SITUATION.
Please use your common sense. You have conquered this “past”. Your body has healed through your good intentions, determination, and research.
Congratulations!
Chances are that you know more about Meniere’s than most medical professionals. So now, be in charge of this situation, in control of your life.
I clearly understand how scary it is to recall a “bad vertigo event”, or to lose your hearing (hopefully temporarily), or suffer through screaming tinnitus. And you want to be reassured that this demon hasn’t come back, but be aware of how this information may be used. Everyone is doing this to help, but just be aware. You conquered this once: you will do it again.
