How Vitamins and Nutritional Supplements Might Be Able To Help you get Relief from your Symptoms
We get a lot of people asking us for information about the connection between vitamins and your symptoms and how David and others were able to start living their lives again. If you had included any personal comments, I hope the response that we gave you about how these nutritional supplements have helped David and others was useful and informative.
If you have had a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of a condition or symptoms such as vertigo, labyrinthitis, vestibular neuritis, tinnitus, Hydrops, etc., would you not also question why a supplement could help?
We often hear doctors telling us we don’t need supplements: to just eat a good meal and you will get all the nutrients you need.
First of all, when you are experiencing a bout of vertigo, who feels like eating? Let alone make a complete and balanced meal? Most people eat as little as possible and that often includes skipping any food altogether.
You know you need to eat, but you simply can’t. And one very common attitude amongst Meniere’s disease (and other) sufferers is the strong desire not to be a burden to someone: to have others do things for them and that includes special meals.
Secondly, when you experiencing hearing symptoms like a loud screeching (tinnitus), who wants to eat? And do you really feel like eating when you feel off balance? No! You would much rather sit quietly and wait for your balance to settle down, right? Even being slightly lightheaded puts you off any thought of food.
Thirdly, when you are experiencing the different symptoms, you are often put on a low salt diet plus a diuretic. Both “encourage” low blood pressure. Do you have any energy left to eat? Hardly. Plus, that low salt diet takes much of the pleasure and taste out of your normal foods. Things just don’t taste “right”.
Lastly, you are simply afraid to eat because you have been told so many different foods can set off these symptoms and you don’t want to take any chances: so you are extra careful not to eat any foods that could possibly add to your problems. That list is so very long, but you try to follow EACH suggestion, faithfully!
I am sure you can add your own specific reasons for not having an adequate diet that supplies all the required nutrients.
Why would nutritional supplements help?
As you may know, the correct term for nutritional supplements is “dietary supplements” and therein lies the reason why they would work. Your body can only live or function with food, i.e. nutrients and the right combinations. You would now be supporting your own (questionably healthy) diet.
At least these nutrients would be easy to get into your body. They would be easy to gather, easy to swallow (some people crush them), and they are easy to digest. Ultimately you are getting all the basic nutrients your body needs to maintain your health and not just what you guessed would be the right kind and amounts.
By doing this, you are putting energy back into your body: energy to fuel your body, energy to give you hope and motivation. And this new motivation changes your outlook from gloom and fear of another episode, to now trying to find the underlying cause.
It’s now time to study the observations email again to get past what is causing your symptoms, or whatever your diagnosis is called. There is always a cause for every symptom you experience.
When you eat properly, you feel better and when you feel better, you have a lot more desire to help yourself. Moreover, you are now really enhancing and supporting your own immune system.
This is the first step to get you can be back on track toward health and a feeling of wellness. This would be an ideal time to start your search for the underlying cause of your balance and hearing symptoms.
“We recommend that all adults take one multivitamin daily. This practice is justified mainly by the known and suspected benefits of supplemental folate and vitamins B12, B6, and D in preventing cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis…
We recommend multivitamins, rather than individual vitamins, because multivitamins are simpler to take and cheaper than the individual vitamins taken separately and because a large proportion of the population needs supplements of more than one vita-min.”
